Jesus' Descendants?

This verse suggests that the Messiah wouldn't have any children.

Why would this even be mentioned?

Weird considering the possibility that Jesus might have had a family.

Isaiah 53:7

In this verse, Jesus models wise behavior in the face of opposition.

It's a lesson I almost never apply.

I rarely keep my mouth shut when I'm frustrated.

Isaiah 53:1-6

The opening question of this passage implies that without divine revelation, it would be impossible to understand Jesus accurately.

The next four verses describe Jesus' low status.

The last two verses explain the theological significance of his sacrifice.

The phrase which stands out most to me is v. 14b: "his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man"

Micah 7

The prophet acknowledges that he feels alone in his obedience.

But then he strikes a note of hope in verse 7:

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD,
I wait for God my Savior;
my God will hear me (NIV).

Micah 6

The classic passage of this chapter is verse 8.

Another pair of verses reminds me of the recent bailout of the financial industry, 12-13.

In conservative circles, blame tends to rest upon "social entitlements," but more liberal groups have a biblical basis to criticize the greedy rich as well.

Our nation is in trouble, but there is no single locus of responsibility. Sin is sin, no matter if you're rich or poor.

Micah 5

Israel will be under attack, but a leader from Bethlehem will lead the nation to victory.

This is a great chapter to reflect upon on Christmas day.

Micah 4

A better day is coming, one of peace, one in which God's people are victorious.

Micah 3

Leaders and prophets-for-hire are denounced.

Serve faithfully, not selfishly.

Micah 1

Brief Summary:

Israel and Judah, the Lord is really angry with your sin and rebellion.

You're screwed.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Incarnation

I was surprised to find that the word "incarnation" does not appear in the Bible.
